Cape Branch Activity May 2019: “Sodium reduction in food in South Africa. Are we making progress?”
The Cape Branch of the NSSA hosted its 2019 on 26 May at UWC with the theme of non-communicable diseases. World Hypertension Day was on 17 May and for this reason we requested Dr Erika Jones a nephrologist at UCT/Groote Schuur Hospital to present on salt and the kidney and Mrs Bianca Tromp from the Heart and Stroke Foundation on “Sodium reduction in food in South Africa. Are we making progress?” Other presenters were Prof Ebenezer Durojaye from the Dullah Omar Institute for Constitutional Law, Governance and Human Rights at UWC who presented on “The relevance of a rights-based approach to NCDs in Africa” and Mr Gabriel Eksteen form UCT on “Low grade inflammation and disease: the role of nutrition”. The event was attended by 42 attendees.
